Professional Lactation Consults
All The Best providers are only Registered Lactation Consultants meaning IBCLC certified. Their credentialing can be verified at the board's website under the United States registry. In addition, the RLCs are Registered Nurses. This can be important because some insurance companies will reimburse for a home visit by a nurse if they refuse to cover a lactation consultant.
We primarily do home consults so we can see you and the baby where the feedings occur. In addition, many mothers can't drive for the first few weeks, and also find car rides uncomfortable. By our coming to you, dad and even extended family can be present and learn right along with mom and baby! All consults include a complete history and physical, feeding assessment, and development plan of care. We don't leave until you feel like things are better and have a good understanding of how to proceed. The results of your consult will be reported to your obstetrician and pediatrician to become a part of the medical record for continuity of care and communication.
If you are not sure if you need a home visit, or if you just have a few questions, give us a call. We never charge for phone calls and are happy to answer questions-that's just a part of what we do! Consults are scheduled within of 24 hrs, usually less, and this includes holidays. We work everyday and will even do early morning and night time visits if needed.
Babies can't wait so we don't either.
In Home Consults

Mothers who are outside of the Columbia area may certainly schedule a consult but fee will also include a travel charge based on location. Office visits are also available. Consults typically last 1-2 hours. We watch the baby, not the clock, so if the consult goes over this time, you are not charged. The cost is $95.
Sometimes a mom and baby need to be seen again for significant feeding problems. Follow up is mutually determined, often when telephone support is not enough. The cost for a follow up visit is $80.
A home visit is a lovely baby gift for an expectant mother. Decorative gift certificates are available at no additional charge.
Prenatal Consults
Sometimes a mom needs a prenatal consult. Often this is for induced lactation to breastfeed an adopted baby. Prenatal consults are typically done in office and consist of a detailed health history, a breast exam, a plan to meet specific needs or goals and related education. As with any consult, a report is sent to the primary caregivers. With an adoption, permission is obtained from the mother to include appropriate hospital personnel in order to better facilitate the breastfeeding process. Our goal is to function as a support system and communication starting point. The cost of a prenatal consult is $70.
Weight Checks
In home weight checks are available for a fee of $20. All results are sent to the infant's physician.
Our lactation consultants are available to function as postpartum doulas for 6-8 hour increments. Call to discuss fee and services.
